Recorded Audition Procedure
- Record audition in ONE TRACK (no editing) on a CD that can be played in a stereo, or Windows computer. Please test the CD to make sure it plays both ways. You may record multiple times, but the final recording that is submitted must be on a SINGLE track, UNINTERRUPTED, and ALL-INCLUSIVE.
- Use ONE CD per audition. Multiple auditions must use separate CD’s for each audition.
- Identification of CD: On the CD, write in this order:

- There should be NO TALKING whatsoever on the recording. Make sure all music is in the proper order and ready to go before beginning the recording.
- Record the material required in the order it was given in the instructions. Do not stop the recording during the audition - make sure all play along recordings are cued and ready to go. Check the volume of play along recordings and student to make sure both can be heard before beginning the audition recording.
- Students may use music on all recorded material.
- Students auditioning for more than one ensemble or with auditions on multiple instruments must provide their director with an order of preference if they are chosen for more than one ensemble and/or if they make the band on more than one instrument. The director will need to send this list with the CD recordings. THIS PREFERENCE LIST IS MANDATORY FOR RECORDINGS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.
- Record material in this order:
- Swing Etude from “” (with play along track)
- Latin Etude from “” (with play along track)
- Approaching the Standards “” (with play along track) – Play the head and improvise two choruses, STOP; Piano, Vibes, Guitar, Bass, and Drums – Play the head, comp/walk one chorus, improvise 2 choruses, STOP
- Blues in C “” (with play-along track) Play the head and improvise two choruses, STOP; Piano, Vibes, Guitar, Bass, and Drums – Play the head, comp/walk one chorus, improvise 2 choruses, STOP
- Directors will be required to submit a statement of authenticity verifying the identity of the students and that the recordings have been done in one through recording.
- Payment: $10 per audition. Checks should be endorsed to MBA. No P.O’s or credit cards allowed. If you are a school who has paid in advance, please indicate such on the signature form.
- Mailing instructions will be sent out if live auditions on December 6 are cancelled. The window for submission will be December 7 - 13, 2014. DO NOT SEND RECORDINGS FED EX. Make sure your method of mailing can be deliverable to a P.O. Box.
- Violations in recording process that would cause the recording to be disqualified include:
Talking on recording
Non-through performance (recording stops and restarts prior to completion)
Missing verification form with Director signature
Missing audition material
